Aromatherapy is another form of alternative medicine that is though technically not approved by the modern medicine yet has had tremendous popularity outside the west.
It has a simple technique – using volatile liquid plant materials known as Essential Oils and other scented compounds from plants to effect a person’s mood and health. The fragrance and aroma effects the brain through the olfactory system.
Aromatherapy Oils can work wonders for people suffering from Insomnia. People either add a few drops of these oils to their bath and soak, inhale neat or sprinkle few drops on their pillows.
The following five oils are most popular in treating Insomnia –
- Sandalwood: Sandalwood is said to be an anti-depressant. Its aroma also serves as a relaxant and an aphrodisiac. Sandalwood oil is believed to be very effective in treating depression, nervous tension and insomnia.
- Ylang Ylang: Ylang Ylang is also said to a be a very good anti-depressant. It is very good for the treatment of stress, excitability and insomnia.
- Jasmine: Jasmine Oils are said to have a very soothing and relaxing effect. It is also a very good sedative. It is said to be very beneficial for depression, insomnia, nervous exhaustion, breathing difficulties and stress.
- Neroli: This oil is said to be very good for panic, irritability, shock and insomnia.
- Lavender: Lavender Oil is also said to be a good anti depressant that can soothe and calm your nerves. It is very efficient in reducing pains, tension, headache and depression. Thus very effective for Insomnia too.
You can ask your partner too give you a soothing massage with a few drops of these oils. In a few minutes you will feel how they effect your mood to calm your nerves and lull you too a good and peaceful night’s sleep.
