No sleeping pills or drugs have been approved for children suffering from Insomnia. Yet, about 80% of American Children suffering from Insomnia are prescribed by their doctors. This was found by a study conducted by Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
Another poll in 2004 by National Sleep Foundation has revealed that nearly 60 percent of American boys and girls under the age of 11 often visit the doctor for sleep disorders and other related problems. Another three-quarters of parents expressed concern over their children’s sleep behavior.
Nearly 75 percent of all prescription drugs are not labeled for pediatric use. Also, no single drug in market approved for sleeplessness use among young patients reports Health Day News.
The study has also revealed that about one third of all the children suffering from insomnia were prescribed antihistamines and about a quarter were offered alpha-2 agonists. And about one fifth of cases were given a combined regimen of medication with behavioral therapy.
