Studies prove that infants and young children’s mental development can be seriously affected if they face frequent breathing problems.

What type of mental problems children face when their sleep is frequently disturbed by breathing problems?

These are some examples of mental development problems which children face when their sleep is disturbed due to breathing problems. Apart from these problems they may develop behavioral problems which can result in some dangerous consequences.

A study funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) found that infants who faced brief or multiple breathing pauses in their first year scored lower marks on tests of Mental Development than other infants of the same age.

Another study funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) found that five year old children who had frequent breathing problems  scored lower marks on Cognitive Tests and Intelligence Tests than other children of same age.

It is also reported by many studies that children who face breathing problems not only develop mental problems, rather they might develop other serious physical issues too. So it’s highly important that parents should always be careful about these conditions in children which sometimes difficult to predict.
