Does your little kid struggle hard to fall asleep at night? Does he wake up too sleepy and dull to go to school? Has he become unusually moody and highly irritable? Does he find it difficult to concentrate on something for a long time? Is he becoming forgetful and inattentive? If Yes then your little kid might be suffering from Insomnia.
Insomnia is a sleep disorder and children and adults are equally susceptible to it. Stress could be the primary underlying cause of Insomnia both in adults as well as children. In case of children, there are also other reasons that you might not have taken note of, like:
Poor sleeping pattern: It is very important to have a fixed bed-time beyond which you should not let your child keep awake. With a fixed bed-time he would be able to develop a healthy sleep pattern. Make sure you allot him a minimum of 8 hours to sleep.
Unhealthy Diet: You should strictly monitor what your child eats. If he is also heavily dependent on the fast-food and other processed foods for his daily nutrition then its time to bring about a change. Make sure he avoids all junk food and all sorts of aerated drinks. Also make it a routine to give him a glass of milk before he goes to bed.
Effects of health problems: If your child is suffering from problems like Asthma or Eczema, it may also contribute to Insomnia in your child. Its better to consult your doctor regarding this.
Side Effects of Medications: If your child is on medications like antidepressants, corticosteroids, and anticonvulsants or even stimulants that are used to treat ADHD, it may be one of the reasons behind Insomnia.
Stress, Depression or Anxiety: Children are very fragile this makes their technique of dealing with Stress very poor. It is wrong to believe that children are not stressed. They could be stressed even due to simple things like learning anxiety at school or being bullied. Fear often is the greatest cause of stress and anxiety in children. You need to be very careful and find the root of his fear and stress in order to help him grow into a mentally and physically fit individual. If unnoticed, these small events may end up as scars that will remain in his mind forever.
