Smoking is indeed injurious to health, but once you are badly addicted to it, getting rid of the habit may seem equally bad for health. Your body gets adapted to smoking and worse is that your mind is controlled by your addiction. This is why you were so bothered by your craving for your cigarette when you tried quitting. This is why you could not sleep until you smoked when you tried to quit.

Its common symptom to suffer from Insomnia during Smoking Cessation. But it may last only for a week or so once you quit smoking. But if you continue smoking it will only lead to more sleep disorders, though not immediate but surely in the long run.

Nicotine, in your cigarette tobacco, is a stimulant that can make you feel better for a short while, but in the long run, it will only increase your depression, and depression will lead you to long lasting sleep problems.

Even if you have problems with sleep for the first couple of weeks after Smoking Cessation, do not get back to smoking. You can try diverting your mind to things like reading books, drinking a warm glass of milk or listening to music or having a snack. If you continue to suffer from Insomnia more than three weeks or so, then you are suffering from Chronic Insomnia which is often the result of depression or something else less connected with smoking cessation.

Chronic Insomnia resulting from smoking cessation is a highly individualized problem that needs special and personal medical attention. In this case, you should immediately see the doctor or probably invest in rehabilitation. This would help you sail through the difficulties of both smoking cessation and Insomnia.
