What is Stress?
There are as many outcomes as there are factors of stress. But what exactly is it like to feel stressed? It is high time you knew this, so you can know it when you undergo stress and be better equipped to combat it.
The body of a living being is in delicate balance in proportionately containing all essential nutrients. The crucial measurements of this balance include the vitality fluid balance, body temperature, caloric intake and many other factors. When any of these balancing acts falls, the measurements are disturbed. This eventually results in stress.
Two Types of Insomnia
One in five people suffer from work-related insomnia. This means that the number of sleepless souls out there is quite high. There are mainly two kinds of insomnia:
- The inability to fall asleep
- The inability to get uninterrupted sleep
Stress, since it causes certain hormone levels to go up, make the body unable to rest. Sometimes, stressful incidents keep playing in the mind vaguely and disrupt sleep, leaving you as tired as you were the previous night.
Tips and Remedies for Stress Related Insomnia
- People say counting sheep at any age is a good idea to fall asleep. Yes, this is so, but not really recommended for stress related sleeplessness. This is because the stressful mind will inherently be playing some repetitive pictures in the mind. Thus, counting sheep or chanting a mantra over and again will only add to that repetition, leading to restlessness of the mind.
- Give yourself a good couple of hours to un-wind the hectic day out of your mind. If you wish, engage in non-alerting, light activities like reading a god book or listening to some soothing music (but not while trying to fall asleep).
- Strictly avoid stimulants like alcohol and coffee before going to bed, as these beverages deprive you of your forty winks.
- A warm shower is one time-tested remedy to fall asleep. Add bath oils or some ginger for that extra relaxing effect.
