Getting a good sleep nourishes not only your body, but also your mind. Lack of sleep causes physical, emotional and psychological problems. Sleeplessness is otherwise known as insomnia, which might be due to a range of reasons like stress, illness, anxiety, climate or place change, pregnancy etc. Some simple tips can however cure most types of insomnia.
How to Get a Good Sleep
Here are some great ways to sleep well during the night:
Have a light supper: Trying to fall asleep after a heavy meal is difficult. Keep your night meal light and simple. Avoid a variety of foods, especially fatty foods. Preferably, eat fruits or vegetables. Drinking milk is also a good idea. It is important to fix the meal time at least a couple of hours before bed time. This way, the body gets ample time for digestion. Also, avoid drinking too much water towards bed time, so that you might reduce the frequency of getting up in the middle of the night for toilet visits.
Alcohol, nicotine kill sleep: Avoid alcohol and nicotine products and drugs well before sleep time, since these can contribute to a whole night without sleep. These might as well disturb and interrupt sleep, in case you do somehow manage to fall asleep.
Light reading helps: It is very essential that your mind should be clear of the day’s strenuous thoughts, since some worries keep you awake the whole night. Watching TV may be helpful for some, but is not strongly recommended. Light reading- a travel magazine, a joke book, a good short story- help you lull to sleep and probably gift you with a sweet dream.
Go to sleep when you feel sleepy: It is good to fix a time to sleep and go to bed at the same time every day, but only if this helps. Do not force yourself to go to sleep at a specific time if you are in no mood for sleep. Take your time, relax and hit the bed when you are really sleepy.
Nothing like a warm shower: It is a very good idea to have a warm shower before going to bed, since this not only helps relax strained muscles, but also helps rid of anxiety and worrisome thoughts. Add a few drops of essential oil like lavender or chamomile to add to the rejuvenation.
