Insomnia is the inability to fall asleep or waking in the middle of the night and staying awake, if this problem continues for more than a month is called chronic insomnia. Most of the cases of insomnia are related to normal day to day worries and tension or simply to caffeine consumption.

Here are some natural and effective ways to say good-bye to sleeplessness:
- A few hours before bedtime take Kava kava. This reduces tension, stress and anxiety and relaxes the muscles. It helps to fall asleep quicker and better. It can be used as a sedative when taking a large dose, as effectively as, benzodiazepines but without the side effects.
- Milk is beneficial in curing the problem of lack of sleep. Drink a glass of milk mixed with honey every night before going to bed. Another home remedy is to massage the soles of your feet with milk.
- The most popular and by far the most effective herb for insomnia is Valerian, It relaxes nerves and muscles, improves sleep quality and makes falling asleep easier. This works wonders for insomnia cause by mental stress, fatigue, fear, and excitement. It is as good as many barbiturates but has no side effects or addiction.
- Thiamine or vitamin B is considered valuable in the treatment of insomnia. Consume lots of wholegrain cereals, pulses and nuts.
- Tuck a lavender sachet under your pillow before leaving for the day. When you come home you will sleep better.
