Human beings get accustomed to certain things only when they are conditioned to it. For e.g. if a person is conditioned to eat at a particular time, no matter where the person is and what he/she is doing, the person will feel hungry at that time.
Conditioning is a very famous technique used by various psychologists and behavior therapists to get people rid themselves of their faulty habits.
In reconditioning therapy, the individual is told to enter his bedroom only when he is sleepy. His bed is only meant for sleeping or for sexual activity. The individual cannot read or rest or eat on the bed. Such activities are meant to be done in another bedroom only.
If the individual suddenly wakes up from sleep and is unable to sleep back again, he/she is asked to walk out of the room, and come into the bed room only when they are sleepy.
Another important factor is that the individual should make a timetable and go to bed only at a particular time specified. The individual should stick to the timetable, and not break away from the timings fixed. This way the person will be conditioned to go to bed at a particular time and will feel sleepy immediately on seeing his/her bed.
