Insomnia is a condition that is not just prevalent amongst the adults but is also gripping the youth. Teenagers according to studies and researchers are the most prone victims to succumb to insomnia.
Why Teenagers and Adolescents?
Adults are not the only people who face stress and pressure in life. The stage of Adolescence according to studies when not dealt with in the right way can be the most stressful period in one’s life.
It is a phase when a teen’s life goes upside down completely. There is information bombardment, identity crises, relationship issues and parent child conflicts.
The most important thing that happens now is the hormonal change and “Change in body clock ” i.e. a teen will not be forced to go to bed by 8 or 9, instead his sleep hours are extended by two hours. More time is spent socializing at the club and parties.
Some teens get into substance abuse like alcohol and smoking and as a result tend to suffer from insomnia.
Stress and peer pressure at school, need to look good, arguments with parents are other factors that greatly stress them.
Not only this the rising competition, projects, exams etc force the teens to burn the midnight oil causing sleep disorders in them.
