Insomnia During Pregnancy

Pregnancy though a very beautiful phase, can sometimes be very taxing to the mother. The most common woes can be

I) Not Being Able To Sleep Due to Two Reasons

1)    Protruding Tummy

With the growth of the fetus, the size of the stomach also increases. This means that ladies who are used to sleeping on the stomach have to lie down sideways, which can be very uncomfortable.

Some women tend to get breathless and end up waking up several times during the night. Some tend to be very uncomfortable lying in one position only and so they end up tossing and turning around.

Remedy: The solution one can follow here is placing a lot of soft pillows under one self in such a way that one is in a comfortable sleeping position.

If you have trouble moving around the bed, place some silk sheets or sleep in silk pajamas, these will help you move around in the bed easily.

Also placing a pillow between your legs and at your lower back will be a good support to your uterus and will help you sleep better.

2)    Peeing Often

A pregnant uterus places a lot of pressure on the urinary bladder, forcing one to move in and out of the toilet a number of times during the day and during the night. Sleeping can be a big problem, as one will have to move out of the toilet a number of times.

Remedy: One can avoid this problem by  drinking in as much fluids one can during the day and avoiding fluid intake during nighttime.

II) Hunger

Also, some women loose out on sleep, as they tend to feel very hungry in the middle of the night. They may spend half the night searching for something they crave or something to eat.

Remedy: The best remedy here is drinking a glass of milk with honey and a light carbohydrate snack, that will help you drift in a long and peaceful sleep.

Keep these points in mind and have great nights sleep.
