Narcolepsy
If suffering from narcolepsy, the patients feel the irresistible urge to sleep at inappropriate places and times. Sometimes, this urge could occur while driving, cooking or even while teaching a class. The patients sleep for a few minutes and wake up more refreshed.
Cataplexy
This disorder causes a person to fall down suddenly. He remains conscious but paralyzed as if in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. The patient may have vivid dreams, which would mean he or she is basically dreaming while awake.
REM Sleep Without Atonia
Atonia stops muscle movement in REM sleep. But this malady causes people to move limbs as if

Somnambulism
This disorder is also known as sleep walking. About 25% of children undergo this eerie experience sometime in their childhood. It generally disappears as one grows up.
Night Terrors
Again children are affected by this disorder. They might get up from deep sleep, feeling terror and horror. But, they may not be able to pinpoint the cause for the feelings. Both night terrors and somnambulism indicated disturbance in the working of the autonomic system, which regulates brain activity during sleep.
Apnea
This malady causes the person to stop breathing while sleeping. As a result, his or her sleep gets disturbed. This peculiar occurrence could keep happening ad nauseam through the night, affecting sleep and thereby the patient’s health as well.
