Sleep is a state of natural rest observed throughout the kingdom. It is a necessary and a vital biological function.

Why is sleep important?

Sleep is essential to maintain a person’s physical and emotional well being. Studies have shown that without enough sleep, a person’s ability to perform even simple tasks declines dramatically.

Persistent sleep deprivation can cause serious health conditions such as erratic behavior, mental disturbance, physical inability, and in the most extreme, yet rare cases, death.

Researchers from the University of Warwick and University College London have found that lack of sleep can more than double the risk of death from cardiovascular disease. And too much sleep can also double the risk of death, weight gain, hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. So it’s highly important to maintain the normal and required sleep hours and patterns to live a healthy life.

Studies say that eight to nine hours of sleep for adult humans is optimal and sufficient for the benefit of overall health.

A widely publicized 2003 study [5] performed at the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine demonstrated that cognitive performance declines with fewer than eight hours of sleep.

Why do we need sleep?

Lack of sleep is said to have been be a contributory factor to a number of international disasters such as Exxon Valdez, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island and the Challenger shuttle explosion.
